Why I Chose Conservation

Ever since I was a kid, I remember watching movies such as Indiana jones and Lara croft, with the main protagonists being able to travel and explore the history of many cultures throughout the world which fascinated me. This was the founding stone for me to read about history, spending countless time reading about the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. Later in life I wanted to contribute to the preservation of my country’s history, at first, I thought of becoming an archaeologist which I was sceptic about because if choosing this career path, I wouldn’t be able to contribute to my dream at the fullest, conservation of cultural heritage on the other hand offered me a direct contact with historic objects and antiquities, giving me the sense of duty to preserve history through my hands.

Career Aspirations

Once completing my studies, my passion of history preservation will lead me to gain more experience in the field of wood conservation and probably archaeological conservation by volunteering. Once I gain more knowledge on those fields, I am eager to apply what I gained on a conservation environment with the hope of honing my skills and acquiring more knowledge in the years to come.

Best University Experience

One of my best experiments on this course was the chance to work on gilding, although I had little experience on gilding from working over the summer, it was as if I was learning everything again while being able to apply what I learned from working on a gilding company back in my country. I also honed my teamworking skills while having the chance to work with like-minded future conservators.
